Despite of long discussions over the role of the sleek F-101 Voodoo it did in the course of its service become one of the best interceptors ever built. The F-101 was originally designed as a strategic Longs Range Escort and Reconnaissance aircraft for SAC and entered service in 1957. From 1959 the improved 2-seat F-101 B became the standard Interceptor with Air Defence Command.

During the war a night fighter version evolved based on the Ju 88C Heavy Fighter and received the service designations C-2, C-4 and C-6. With the introduction of the first night radar surveillance systems the Ju 88C-6 was fitted with the initial model "FuG 202 Lichtenstein BC" units. Because of their shape the characteristic antennae they quickly became known within the Squadronsas "mattresses". Together with the later Ju 88C night fighter versions, 3964 Ju 88 Night Fighter and Heavy Fighters were manufactured up until the end of the war.

The Bf 110, a twin-engine Long-Range Escort Fighter flew for the first time on 12 May 1936. Although the Bf 110 did not acquit itself well against its British counterparts during the initial encounters, it continued in service throughout the War without interruption. The G-4 was the first really successful variant and was used for night fighting against the growing Allied bomber offensive over Germany. It was armed with twinor multiple 20 mm canon and four 7.9 mm MG's and was fitted for the first time with the "Lichtenstein" on-board SN-2 radar .

The two-seater BAe Hawk was designed for advanced pilot and tactical weapons training. The first aircraft flew on 21 August 1974. The armed version entered service later with the two Tactical Weapons Units at the RAF bases at Brawdy and Chivenor. They were normally equipped with a 30-mm Aden Cannon Pod and pylons for external Tanks or Rocket Pods. In the mid 80s many aircraft were modified to the type T1A standard.

The USS Skipjack (SSN-585) was the first US Navy nuclear attack submarine with ahydro-dynamically optimized tear-drop shape. The hull was a single pressure hullwith circular cross-section made of high strength HY-80 steel. A visual feature was that the forward diving planes were fin-mounted for the first time. The six torpedo tubes in the bow could fire a total of 24 torpedoes. Until their decommissioning the six vessels of the Skipjack Class formed the senior unit of the US submarine fleet. The USS Skipjack was the last submarine of that class tobe retired on 19th April 1990.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is one of the most famous aircraft in aviation history. About 33,000 were produced in various models. The "109" was the of the German "Luftwaffe" throughout the Second World War. Their good rate of climb and acceleration in the dive were two of the Bf 109's strengths. In production from the summer of 1942, the Bf 109G model had several significant modifications compared with the previous model, the Bf 109F. The new DB 605 A engine produced more power, which required a widening of the propeller blades. Two pods housing MG 151/20 cannon located under the wings were frequently fitted. The G-4 was built from October 1942 onwards. Early models of the "Gustav" were followed by the Bf 109G-6 which with over 12000 units was the most prolific version. The two MG17's above the engine were replaced by a pair of MG 131's Two large almost circular bulges are apparent on the engine cowling giving the G-6 its characteristic appearance. These were necessary because there was no longer space for the ammunition feed belts under the cowling.

The German Army's CH-53 GA is the CH-53G adapted to today's service requirements. Important features include extended range through the use of two auxiliary fuel tanks, new titanium rotor blades, new sensors, an electronic defensive suite, CHAFF Dispenser Pod, and new cockpit instrumentation. This has enhanced the combat performance of what is currently the largest helicopter in the western world. These modifications are specifically essential for deployments in Afghanistan.

The Seafire Mk XV was the first Royal Navy carrier aircraft to be fitted with the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. The larger and heavier Griffon produced substantially more power than the Rolls Royce Merlin. Originally planned for use in the Pacific theatre against the Japanese, the first aircraft were however delivered too late to actively participate in combat. A larger number were delivered to Canada, France and Burma. Equipped with two 20 mm Hispano Mk.V cannons and four Browning machine guns, it achieved a top speed of 623 km/h (387 mph).

After the Ju88 with over 6200 units built, the He 111 became the most prolific bomber of the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War. Although it was inferior to all Allied Bombers, it remained in mass production until the autumn of 1944. The He 111 first saw service during the Spanish Civil War. Out of an aircraft with a stepped nose with limited visibility forward and down, evolved abomber with a fully glazed asymmetric nose section that became the trademark of the He111. This version received the designation He111P. From the end of 1941 the He 111 was considered to be outdated due to its poor accuracy. Despite this,mass production of the He111H-6 continued. The aircraft was fitted with the Junkers Jumo 211F-1, a 12 cylinder engine with a capacity of 35 litres giving a power output of 1350 Bhp. It was one of the most advanced engines of the period.In the torpedo bomber role the H-6 could carry two LT F5b aerial torpedoes externally under the fuselage - instead of an external bomb load of up to 2500 kg. As the war continued the He 111 also played an increasingly important role as a transport aircraft. With a production run of 1775 units the H-6 was the largest volume production model of the He111 series. They were used up until theend of the War.

The Naval version of the Lynx was originally designed to operate from the Frigattes and Destroyers of the "Royal Navy". Built by Westland Helicopters the Lynx undertook its maiden flight 1971 and has taken part in all British military conflicts since 1982. Due to its high reliability, performance and versatility, it is in service in 14 countries. The Lynx HAS Mk.3 is the second multi-purpose helicopter to be developed as an Anti Submarine Warfare helicopter for the Royal Navy. It received two uprated Rolls-Royce Gem 4-1 engines each develloping 1120 Shp and a GEC Marconi "Seaspray Radar". In order to attack surface vessels the Lynx can be fitted with two Sea Skua guided missiles, a highly effective weapons system that proved its value during the Gulf War. Additionally, the Lynx can also deploy two Sting Ray Torpedos when submarine hunting. An especially attractive livery adorned the Royal Navy "Black Cats" display team at RNAS Yeovilton in 2008.

Other uses within the RAF included Troop Transport, Photo Reconnaissance and inserting Agents. In total 2941 aircraft were produced, Maximum Speed 396 km/h (246 mph).

The Russian Mi-24V "Hind E" Combat Helicopters has been built since 1976. With a weapon-load of up to two ton's, the helicopter possesses enormous fire-power. The helicopter is very versatile and despite its high take-off weight is still fast and agile. The fuselage and rotor system are armoured and partially protected against small arms fire up to 23 millimetres calibre. The Mi-24 is therefore often referred to as the "Flying Tank". So far, more than 2300 Mi-24 have been produced in various models.

Space Ship Two is a privately-developed spacecraft for sub-orbital space flight and was built by "The Space Ship Company", a joint venture between Scaled Composites and Richard Branson's Virgin Group. The first "Free Flight" took place on 10 October 2010 from the Mojave Space-port in California. During the 7th "Free Flight" in May 2011 wing-tips with a 65° anhedral were tested in the glide descent. "Space Ship Two" is 18 meter long offers space for two pilots and six passengers. It is carried to an altitude of 15 km by the "White Knight Two" mother aircraft. There, "Space Ship Two" is released and its rocket engine accelerates it to Mach 3 in 30 seconds. At a speed of 4,200 km/h the engine is switched off and the spacecraft remains in orbit at an altitude of 110 km for about 5 minutes before gliding back to Earth. The first tourist flights are planned for the end of 2012 and cost approximately 200,000 US dollars per passenger.

Known as the "Good old Aunt Ju" the Ju52 became a flying legend. No other aircraft can claim to have transported over 120,000 wounded. "She" also played an indispensable part in the transport and resupply role. Spectacular missions such as the invasion of Crete solidified the legendary reputation of the Ju52 asa robust and reliable transport aircraft. Production was not suspended until 1944.

The F-16 is considered to be one of the most versatile fighter aircraft in the world and offers an almost unlimited operational spectrum. The F-16C Lot 50/52 or iginated as "Wild Weasel" to combat enemy air defences. These aircraft are equipped with the AGM-88 HARM missile and an electronic target acquisition system. The Turkish Air Force was also equipped with the F-16C. The F-16C Solo Türk is represented in a particularly attractive special livery.

The Fairey Gannet was the first carrier-based submarine hunting aircraft in the world to be fitted with coupled twin-jet turbines and counter-rotating propellers. She was the first aircraft in the UK's Fleet Air Arm designed from the outset for the locate and destroy role. In January 1955 the Gannet AS entered service with the Fleet Air Arm and was deployed on aircraft carriers. The trainer version derivative was designated T5. A T5 is currently undergoing an extensive rebuild to make it airworthy once again.

The concept for an Tornado ECR originated as early as 1985. It was fitted with a passive radar detection and identification sensor and along with the obligatory defensive suite also the AGM-88 HARM. Fighter Bomber Wing 32 in Lechfeld is the only German Air Force unit to be equipped with the Tornado ECR. In 2011 Fighter Bomber Wing 32, as a member of the NATO Tiger Association displayed a particularly attractive Tiger livery.

The Tornado ECR is one of NATO's most effective electronic warfare and reconnaissance weapons. No.1 Sqn of the 32nd Fighter Bomber Wing has flown the aircraft since May 1991. Compared to the fighter-bomber version, the Tornado ECR is equipped with additional sensors and systems. No.1 Sqn has been an active member of the NATO Tiger Association since 1996 and has attended at several Tiger Meets - always presenting attractive special liveries. A more elaborate airbrush design was applied to an ECR Tornado for the 2011 Tiger Meet has been recognized as one of the best liveries ever.

The Northrop F-89 was the first two-seat all-weather interceptor in the USAF. The maiden flight took place on 16 August 1948. Overall, the Scorpion served for almost twenty years with the USAF and the Air National Guard. Maximum speed: 1,024 km/h at 3230m altitude, Range approximately 4200 km. Permanent long-distance patrols led to 350 of the total 683 -D versions being converted tothe F-89J specification.

Quite early on Halftracks had clearly demonstrated their remarkable off-road capabilities when compared with wheeled vehicles and so it was only natural to develop armoured versions for military use. Production of the Sd.Kfz. 251 commenced in 1938 with first deliveries to an Armoured Infantry Unit in 1939. Mass produced around 16,000 times, this fully armoured vehicle was deployed on almost all European Battlefields in a multitude of variants. One of these variants is the Sd.Kfz. 251/16 was a flame throwing tank with two side mounted flame throwers.

The Class 43 was built by the German Locomotive manufacturers Henschel and Schwartzkopff during 1927 and 1928. It was a two-cylinder locomotive and generated an output of 1880 Induced Horse Power giving a top speed of 70 km/h (45 mph). Coupled with a 2'2'T32 tender it could carry 10 tons of coal and 32 cubic meters of water. The locomotives acquitted themselves extremely well. Later, they were often coupled to the shorter type 2'2T30 tender. Many of these locomotives were also fitted with Wagner or Witte type smoke deflectors.

The Falklands War was an armed conflict between Argentina and the United Kingdomover the Falkland Islands. It lasted from April to June 1982. Paratroopers of the British Armed Forces were deployed during the re-capture of the Islands.

The T-90 is currently the most modern Russian Battle Tank. Developed on the basis of the T-72, it has been in production since 1992. The typical low silhouette of Russian tanks reduces the size of the target area. Due to the fully stabilized 125 mm smooth-bore gun, the T-90 can successfully engage enemy combat vehicles at up to 1,000 meters range. The gun can also fire laser-guided missiles.

The T-90 appears in the standard version with a cast turret. The kit also provides the opportunity to configure both the T-90K (Command Tank) and T-90S (Export version, India amongst others) using the additional parts included.

The Leopard 2 with its typical vertically sided turret was introduced into the German Army (Bundeswehr) from 1979 (A4 - 2125 units) and into the Dutch Armed Forces (A4NL - 445 units) from 1983 onwards. To ward off the growing threat posed by enemy aircraft, mechanized units were equipped with self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, such as the Sd. Car. 7/1. The Sd.Kfz. 7/1 evolved by mating a 2 cm Quad-Flak 38 mounted on a suitable gun platform with the tried and tested chassis of the 8 ton half-track (Sd.Kfz. 7) truck.

A new Sherman Model, the M4A1 was introduced in January 1944. Despite an improved 76mm cannon and a completely new turret, deficiencies still remained inthe form of poor nose and the side armour that often required added protection. Due to the numerical superiority and greater mobility the American Sherman was able to prevail over German tanks. The Sherman tank was deployed in many theatres of operation.

The Strv 122 is basically similar to the German LEOPARD 2A5, the differences being more advanced features such as the anti-bomblet roof protection or additional armour on the frontal arc. The LEOPARD 2 built expressly for Sweden has a control system which also shows tactical data on a digital map. This produced not only superior weapons technology but also operational superiority. Some of the total of 120 Strv 122s purchased were equipped with improved anti-mine protection like the German LEOPARD 2A6M and designated the Strv 122B. Since then the original version has been known as the Strv 122A.

The safety of soldiers has always been a top priority. With the DINGO 2 the Bundeswehr has a highly mobile wheeled vehicle that fulfils this requirement in every respect. The Tornado is the largest European military aircraft program. The Tornado is inuse with four Air Forces. The Airbus A350 is a completely newly designed Airbus Wide-Body aircraft for long-distance routes of up to 15000 km (9315 miles). The convincing use of carbon fibre composite materials results in a significant weight reduction, which combined with the new RR Trent WB X engines gives an Operating Cost saving of about 10% below those of the Boeing 787. In the A350-900 configuration, the new aircraft can seat 314 passengers. The prototype launch is planned for early 2013, with an in service date of late 2014.

Hurricane squalls with speeds of over 100 km/h, wave crests over 5 m high, rain showers and cold - the search & rescue vessels of the DGzRS (German maritime search and rescue service) often have to go out under these conditions. Their sea rescue work is financed exclusively by charitable donations. The search & rescue vessel BERLIN from the Laboe (Baltic) Station is one of the most effective units. Constructed out of salt-water proof light metal, the BERLIN is distinguished by a high level of seaworthiness with self-righting capabilities. She is driven by one 1,200 kW MTU diesel engine and two 610 kW MWM diesel engines. Speed: 23 knots; range: 2,300 sea miles. She has a 9 man crew, 4 of whom are permanently on board. A daughter boat located in a well in the after-deck has a low draught to enable her to be used in shallow waters and reaches a speed of 17 knots.

After the loss of four large aircraft carriers in Midway, the Japanese decided not to use the third vessel in the Yamato Class as a battleship, but to use the hull for an aircraft carrier. As the 20 cm thick armoured deck was already laid, it was only possible to set up a hangar deck for 18 to 47 aircraft. The Shinano was never used - as she was being taken to the Kure shipyard for completion she was sunk by the American submarine Archerfish.

The Mail Boat line "Hurtigruten" celebrates its 120th anniversary in 2013. Not only the German Chancellor appreciates of the benefits of the commercial connection between Northern and Southern Norway. The A-10 is still one of the most successful combat aircraft for close air support/ground attack missions and can carry up to 8 tonnes of armaments. The A-10 was in practice built around one of the post powerful American cannons - the General Electric GAU-8A Avenger - a seven-barrel revolving Gatling gun with 1,174 rounds, calibre 30 mm. The reputation of the A-10 was founded on its missions in Kosovo and later in the Gulf region against tank units.

The name X-Wing Fighter is derived from its superimposed double wings that form a lying X in combat configuration in order to increase its area of fire. The wings can be extended during combat or upon entry into a planet's atmosphere. High Energy Laser Cannon can be found on the wing-tips. The X-Wing Fighter soon proved itself to be one of the most effective ships in the Galaxy and quickly became the standard fighter in the Rebel Alliance.

The Volkswagen Type 1 is without a doubt one of the most important cars in automotive history. Mass production began late in 1945 and Volkswagen consistently modified the vehicle. In 1966, the most powerful variant to date appeared with a displacement of 1.5 litres and a power output increased by 10% over its predecessor. The most striking change was the now vertical headlights and the somewhat less graceful lines.

The Volkswagen Van, internally designated VW Type 2, was mass produced from 1950onwards. The technology used in the van with its typical V-shaped front section came from the VW Beetle. The van became popular due to its enclosed sides and was used as a commercial transport vehicle by all kinds of companies.

The concept phase of the BMW M3 began in 2010 in order to prepare it to compete against experienced competitors in the German Touring Car Championships (DTM). The M3 is powered by a completely newly designed four-litre engine which delivers a good 480 bhp. Success at the end of the season showed just how good the new car was: BMW won the manufacturers' title ahead of Audi during its firstyear of participation in the new DTM. Martin Tomczyk, the DTM champion in 2011, only moved to BMW in the Autumn of 2011.

From 1989 onwards, with their new SL (= Super Light) range, Mercedes-Benz offered a sensational sports car that was sporty but relaxing to drive and incorporated more electronics and electrical aids than any previous SL. It combined performance, safety, pleasure and comfort to a higher degree than any other car of its period could offer. This included the elegant exterior, styled by Bruno Sacco which united Italian flair with German reliability. A variety of engines was available to enthusiastic drivers. In the case of the 300 SL-24 coupé this was the lively 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2,960 cc and four-valve technology which delivered 231 bhp (170 kW) at 6,300 rpm and gave a top speed of 240 km/h.

A celebratory set commemorating the 75th Anniversary of 'Mallard' achieving the World Speed Record for steam locomotives. It was in July 1938 that on the East Coast Mainline route just south of Grantham on Stoke Bank that 'Mallard' was recorder at travelling at travelling at 126mph thus snatching the record from the German railway by a mere 1.5 mph and a record that still stands to this very day.

This striking set includes a representation of 'Mallard' as seen in the days just before the record attempt resplendent in the Express locomotive livery of Garter Blue. Accompanying the locomotive are three LNER teak effect coaches with additional coaches available from the RailRoad range. The set also includes a large oval of track with siding and buffer stop.

Back in the 1930's the elegance of the Pullman coaches showed the high class of railway travel, each coach had table lamps for each table and light music there was even a kitchen car for lunch or dinner on every journey. Many locomotives hauled this majestic class of coaches including the Castle Class locomotives on the GWR The castle class was an ideal model to haul the Pullman Cars around the west of England and through into glamorous country side of Wales. Now owned by the Montgomery Transport Group, Dukes Transport Limited was established in 1971, and based at their specially designed warehouse and office complex on a 10 acre site in Portadown, Northern Ireland.  They also occupied depots at Stranraer, Huddersfield, Motherwell, Heysham and Crick, Northants.  The company operated a large fleet of over 450 trailers, 140 tractors and a large fleet of distribution vehicles all of which carried registration numbers ending in 77.

George Beatty began trading in Ballinamallard in 1979 in the backyard of his father’s grocery and confectionery business. The U.S.S. Hornet was a US Navy Essex Class aircraft carrier. Entering service in 1943, the Carrier served during the Second World War, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. It also gained notoriety as the recovery ship for the Apollo Missions 11 and 12. Retired in 1970 the Hornet today serves as a museum ship.

The model represents its condition in the year 1969, including the landing capsule of Apollo 11.

The Swift Boat, also known as Fast Patrol Craft (PCF), is a medium Patrol Boat of the U.S. Navy which was developed for use in rivers and shallow coastal waters. The first of these entered service in the Summer of 1965. The main Theatre of Operation for the Swift boats was the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam War.
